Digital Responsibilities and Maths Week Scotland

In Primary 6 we have been learning all about being responsible Digital Citizens.  We have discussed the importance of keeping ourselves safe online and also how we should behave online.

We completed an experiment where the class had to squeeze all of the toothpaste out of the tube in two minutes. Easy!!👏

After this, the class then had to get all of the toothpaste back into the tube using just two cocktail sticks. Not so easy…😶

From this experiment, the class discussed all about what they post and share online. We had a chat around what a Digital Footprint is and that all of our behaviours online don’t wash away like normal footprints. We made connections with this and our toothpaste experiment and came to the conclusion:

It is easy to say and share things online quickly, like it was to empty the tube of toothpaste.

It is much harder to erase what we have said and shared online after we have shared it, much like it was to clean up all of the toothpaste.

We will be responsible digital citizens and show positive digital behaviours!✅

Primary 6/1 then made posters about how we can have a positive digital footprint.

During Maths Week Scotland we have had a week filled of Maths inspired activities. 🔢

We looked at the art of Piet Mondrian and used Maths materials to imitate his artwork. Each child rolled the dice 3 times to create a number in the hundreds. We then drew round hundreds, tens and ones to create our art. Then we used the same colours as Piet Mondrian,: yellow, red and blue. 🎨💛❤️💙

A very exciting piece of news!🥳

We completed an Escape Room as a class and have won the whole school a subscription to 0maths which is worth £840!

Well done Primary 6/1, I am so proud!👏

Have a well deserved September Weekend,

Miss Payne 🙂

The Start of a New Chapter📖

Primary 6/1 are off to a great start in our new classroom.

We have spent a long time discussing our rights and deciding our responsibilities in upholding these rights as a class. We selected the Emoji theme:

Primary 6 have started to learn about the 7 Elements of Art. Everyone created a piece of artwork displaying all 7 elements.

We had a whole focus on the element of Line where we all experimented drawing different types of lines. Some of us had a go at “taking a line for a walk” inspired by the artist Paul Klee where we completed a continuous line drawing without lifting our pen from the page.

Glasgow Science Centre

Yesterday we enjoyed a great trip to the Glasgow Science Centre. We had been preparing in advance for our visit by learning about  body systems and we got to learn more about the the vital organs of the body during the theatre show. We also had lots of time to explore the three floors of the Science Centre and to try out lots of fun activities. Below is a little sample of the things we got up to.

Final Weeks of Term

We are now into June and in the final weeks of term. It is hard to believe how quickly the year has gone. Everyone has been working really hard and we have made great progress. We will keep working hard right up to our final day of Primary 5.

Bikeability🚲 🏍️

Today P5 had their first Bikeability session in the playground. We performed our M Check on the bikes, checked our safety helmets and began learning new cycling skills including turning safely for left and right turns. We also practised our balance skills with the slalom and the slow race.

And the winner is…

Well done to Lewis who was the winner of the P7 Grow a Fiver Raffle winning the football. Here he is being presented with it from the P7 entrepreneurs. Lewis definitely had his eye on the prize and was really keen to win the football! ⚽️

Successful Learners 💻⌨️🖥️

This term we have been busy in ICT learning to code using a program called Kodu. We have learned how to program a robot to move and also managed to create a simple collection game with a scoring system. We have enjoyed learning new skills.
We have also learned how to create our own websites using Google Sites. Here is Ronnie, below, presenting his DJ site to the class. We were very impressed with Ronnie’s website which is easy to navigate and provides lots of information about how to be a DJ.

Today we had a STEM visit from Graham Construction. The engineer explained to us the processes involved in building bridges and how all new construction work has to consider the environment.
We worked in groups to create our own bridge designs.
